Dr. Mohd. Ataullah Khan is an Assistant Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at Mahindra Ecole Centrale College of Engineering. Dr. Ataullah Khan did his Ph.D. in Mechanical and Materials Engineering from Masdar Institute, U.A.E. Prior to joining MEC, he worked as a Research Assistant at Masdar Institute, Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.

  • 2014-2017: Doctorate (Ph.D.) (Mechanical and Materials Engg.), Masdar Institute, a part of Khalifa University of Sci. and Tech. , U.A.E, in collaboration with MIT CGPA. Fully funded research scholarship from MI-MIT collaborative project for a period of 48 months from Jan-2014 to Dec-2017. Published three international peer-reviewed journal articles and one peer-reviewed conference paper. Additionally, nine journal articles are in submission.
  • 2009-2011: Master of Engineering (M.E.) (Structural Engineering), Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India, CGPA. Secured all India rank 5 with a percentile score of 99.94 in GATE-2009 which was conducted by IITs and IISc.
  • 2005-2009: Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering (B.E.), Osmania University, Andhra Pradesh, India, Aggregate percentage.

Ph.D. Thesis:

Title Compliance-Tailored Multilayers: Theory, Computation, 3D Printing and Testing Supervisors Dr. Kumar Shanmugam, Associate Prof., Dept. of Mech. and Mat. Engg., Khalifa University of Sci. & Tech. , Abu Dhabi, U. A. E Description Mitigation of stress concentrations in multilayered materials and structures, particularly at free-edges, represents a significant opportunity for performance enhancement of such systems. Undesirable edge effects can be mitigated by appropriately spatially tuning the material properties. The emergence of additive manufacturing (AM) technologies, especially multi-material 3D printing, offers the possibility of cost-effective automation of the fabrication process and provides greater flexibility for locally tailoring the material architecture in three-dimensions across scales. This study is therefore focused on theoretical and computational modeling, additive manufacturing and experimental evaluation of compliance-tailored multilayers.

Masters Thesis:

Title Polynomial chaos characterized eigenvalue problem for large sparse systems Supervisors Dr. Debraj Ghosh, Associate Prof., Dept. of Civil Engineering, IISc Bangalore Description The Randomness in the properties (like Stiffness) of structural systems was modelled using chaos theory. This Stochastic finite element model was implemented using C++ as a platform using open source libraries like LAPACK and BLAS. The accuracy of results were tested against the classical Mote-Carlo algorithm and found to be in close proximity while the computation time needed was only a fraction of that needed for classical Monte-Carlo.
