Bishnu P Pal is the Dean of Academics at MU. Prior to joining MU in July 2014, he was a Professor of Physics for over 24 years at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, during which he served as the Chairperson of the Physics Department (September 2008-December 2011) and Head of the Computer Services Centre (September 2003-August 2006). Bishnu P Pal re-joined MU in July 2018 as Professor of Physics after having been away from MU for 1 year during 2017-18 at Bennett University in Greater Noida as a Consulting Professor.
Prof. Pal has edited several books published by Elsevier/Academic Press, John Wiley, Intech, New Age, and Viva publishers. His current areas of research are Guided Wave Photonics and Optical Communication. OSA The Optical Society (USA), and IEEE Photonics Society (USA), respectively honoured him with global awards namely; Esther Hoffman Beller medal during the centennial year of OSA in 2016 and Distinguished Lectureship (DL) for 2005-07. He has many other awards and citations for significant contributions in the field of optical fiber communications. He has published and reported over 200 research papers and research reviews in peer reviewed international journals and conferences, delivered over 50 plenary/invited talks at international conferences in India and abroad, and has co-submitted a patent in India and one in the USA.
He has served as the President of the Optical Society of India (2012–2015), Associate Vice President of IEEE Photonics Society's Membership Council (2011-2015), and a member of the International Jury for the Galileo Galilei Prize of the International Commission of Optics (2010-2014).
